Investment in Gulmarg’s Future

The flawless construction of the Convention Centre, costed at Rs 21 crore by the NBCC, represents a significant investment in the region’s tourism and culture. The Chief Minister was accompanied by numerous dignitaries including Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, and Additional Chief Secretary for Tourism Dr. Ashish Chandra Verma on this momentous occasion.

Enhancing Tourism Infrastructure

Omar Abdullah laid down the foundation for a Ski Hire Shop, marking another enhancement to Gulmarg’s winter tourism infrastructure. “While the physical structure is essential, optimal use and maintenance are crucial,” Abdullah emphasized during his speech. He acknowledged that while the project was completed on time and on budget, furnishings were not included in the original plan.

Gulmarg’s Aspiration to Become a MICE Hub

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of positioning the Convention Centre as a hub for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) tourism, wedding destinations, and high-profile events. “Linking the Centre with the SKICC marketing network will promote it as part of a broader package,” he stated. This strategy is aimed at hosting multiple annual events, attracting participants from around the globe, which could eventually label Gulmarg as Asia’s Davos.

Creating Evening Recreational Opportunities

Omar Abdullah also highlighted the need to enrich the evening activities available for tourists, especially during winter months. “The Gulmarg Convention Centre can significantly change the tourist experience by introducing facilities like a coffee shop, restaurant, and digital cinema,” he noted. This would provide engaging evening entertainment for visitors, thereby increasing revenue and sustaining the facility’s use.

Maximizing Utilization for All Departments

The Chief Minister appealed to various government departments to utilize the Convention Centre for official functions, training programs, and meetings. This would ensure the Centre’s full capability is leveraged while also creating a refreshing change in location for participants from fields like education, health, and social welfare.

A Landmark Addition to Gulmarg’s Tourism Profile

In conclusion, Omar Abdullah commended the contributions of NBCC and the Gulmarg Development Authority, calling the project a landmark addition. “With proper management, this Centre will not only host conferences but also become a vibrant space for cultural tourism,” he added. As the project unfolds, Gulmarg is poised to attract a flood of tourism and international attention.
