Agni-Prime missile launch from rail-based mobile system

The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), alongside the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), successfully launched the Agni-Prime missile yesterday from a rail-based mobile launcher, marking a significant advancement in India’s defense technology.

This launch took place under full operational conditions and showcases India’s growing capabilities in missile technology.

The Agni-Prime missile, designed to cover an impressive range of up to 2,000 km, includes several advanced features aimed at enhancing its efficacy. According to a statement from the Defence Ministry, this missile promises to bolster India’s defense strategies significantly.

The launch utilized a unique rail-based mobile launcher that can travel along the rail network without any special preconditions. This capability allows for cross-country mobility, drastically reducing the launch reaction time while ensuring stealthy operations.

The advanced system is self-sustained and incorporates independent launch capabilities, including cutting-edge communication systems and protective measures, making it a formidable asset in India’s arsenal.

The Agni-Prime missile’s trajectory was carefully monitored by various ground stations, confirming that the launch met all designated mission objectives. Analysts see this as a critical step toward integrating futuristic rail-based systems within the armed forces.

Senior scientists of DRDO and high-ranking officials from the Strategic Forces Command attended the launch to witness this historic event.

Furthermore, the Agni-P, a road-mobile version of the missile, has already been inducted into service following a series of successful trials. The consistency and reliability shown during these tests have been pivotal in solidifying the missile’s operational capabilities.

In response to the successful test, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the DRDO, SFC, and Indian armed forces. He stated that this achievement places India among select nations equipped with canisterized launch systems capable of operating from rail networks.

Minister Singh expressed his pride in India’s capabilities on social media platform X, highlighting the strategic significance of this missile. He noted that, “This next generation missile is designed to cover a range up to 2,000 km and is equipped with various advanced features that allow cross-country mobility and quick launches with reduced visibility.”

Additionally, he stated, “Congratulations to the DRDO, Strategic Forces Command, and the armed forces on the successful test of the intermediate range Agni-Prime missile. This successful flight test has put India in the group of select nations that have developed effective canisterized launch systems.”

The Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of DRDO also commended the teams involved in this landmark achievement, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in enhancing national defense capabilities.
