The Indian Railways announced plans to extend the Vande Bharat Express from Jammu to Srinagar. The semi-high-speed train currently operates between Katra and Srinagar and aims to boost regional connectivity for commuters.
Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, confirmed the initiative, highlighting that preparations are in full swing. The project faced initial delays due to extensive damage to railway tracks caused by recent floods and incessant rains.
Kumar stated, “We are working on it. The delay occurred because of massive damage to tracks due to floods and heavy rains. But sooner or later, this service will be available to the people of Jammu.” He emphasized that restoration efforts are progressing rapidly and that the service will commence following necessary safety clearances.
Since its introduction earlier this year, the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service significantly reduced travel time between the Valley and the base camp of the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The extension to Jammu is poised to enhance connectivity further, benefiting commuters, pilgrims, and tourists alike.
Officials indicate that once operational, the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express will likely run daily. Passengers can expect improved travel comfort and reduced journey times compared to existing rail and road services.
