On October 26, 2023, in Nagpur, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized the importance of ‘vyakti nirman’ (character building) during the centenary Vijayadashami event. He stated that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) remains committed to its core mission, despite various temptations to engage in politics.
Addressing a gathering of swayamsevaks, Bhagwat remarked that his message was a reflection of learnings from the organization’s 100-year journey, underscoring the need for gradual reforms in the global order.
“India must present a development model based on a holistic and integrated outlook, rooted in dharma, and offer it to the world,” he articulated. Bhagwat explained that dharma encompasses more than just rituals; it serves as the connecting principle of society.
Through living examples of integrity and social leadership, Bhagwat believes that the RSS fosters positive values at its shakhas. He reiterated that the organization prioritizes character-building over political engagement. “For the last 100 years, the RSS has been offered temptations and even invited to enter politics. But the Sangh has focused only on running shakhas and building character,” he asserted.
Bhagwat identified vyakti nirman as the right path for sustainable social change. He cited the collective experience of swayamsevaks as testament to this belief. Highlighting India’s rich diversity in languages, faiths, and cultures, he asserted that this pluralism strengthens the nation.
“All communities, including those who adopted foreign religions, are part of the larger Indian identity,” Bhagwat emphasized, calling for harmony and mutual respect while denouncing violence and communal discord.
In his address, Bhagwat criticized hooliganism and urged law enforcement agencies to act impartially against those who undermine societal peace. He called upon youth and society to stay vigilant and organized to protect communal harmony, advocating for proactive intervention when necessary.
