Doda, Nov 2: In a groundbreaking achievement for the Chenab Valley, the Government Medical College (GMC) Doda performed its first-ever thrombolysis procedure on a stroke patient. This medical milestone represents a significant advancement in emergency healthcare services for the region.
The procedure, which involves administering clot-busting medication to treat strokes, took place under the expert supervision of Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl and Head of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Amir Hussain Parray, marking GMC Doda’s entry into providing advanced stroke management locally.
The patient, identified as Roshan Lal from village Dolli in Gundna tehsil, arrived at GMC Doda exhibiting classic stroke symptoms. A dedicated team, led by Dr. Govinder Kumar (MD Medicine), along with Resident Doctor Dr. Divyanshu and Intern Dr. Momin, evaluated and treated him promptly. The successful collaboration included invaluable assistance from Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Arif Mir, and the nursing staff.
Health experts stated that the patient responded positively to the thrombolytic therapy and is now on the road to recovery. The success of this new health procedure signifies a crucial turning point in local medical capabilities.
Prior to this procedure, patients suffering from acute strokes in Doda and the surrounding areas had to be referred to GMC Jammu or other high-level care facilities, often losing valuable time during transfers. With the implementation of thrombolysis at GMC Doda, stroke patients can now receive world-class treatment without delay.
Dr. Bahl praised the medical team, affirming, “This achievement is a landmark for GMC Doda. It provides reassurance to countless families in remote areas that they can now access advanced treatment swiftly.”
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Parray stated, “The successful procedure not only showcases our team’s growing expertise but also serves as a beacon of hope for the entire Chenab region.”
The local community has widely celebrated this development as it enhances the rural healthcare infrastructure and emphasizes the importance of timely treatment within the critical golden hour of stroke onset. By making thrombolysis available locally, GMC Doda aims to save lives and improve health outcomes significantly.
