In a decisive move to thwart the misuse of vehicles for unlawful activities, Awantipora Police have launched a comprehensive inquiry into vehicle transactions within the police district. This initiative began on October 1, 2023, with Senior District Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) visiting local car dealerships to thoroughly examine sales records.
Authorities are particularly concerned about instances where individuals purchase multiple vehicles, a trend often associated with potential illegal activities. During these inspections, officers ensured compliance by verifying the documentation maintained by car dealers, focusing on records related to the sale and purchase of vehicles.
Officials instructed car dealers to keep meticulous records for every transaction. This includes collecting Aadhaar details, phone numbers, and contact information for both buyers and sellers. Such measures aim to promote greater transparency and accountability in vehicle dealings.
The police initiative forms part of a larger strategy to enhance surveillance systems and deter vehicles from being utilized for anti-social or illegal purposes. In recent years, increasing vehicle misuse has prompted law enforcement to take action.
