Sunil Sethi resignation from JKCA Sub-Committee

In a significant turn of events, Sunil Sethi, the Member–Legal Affairs of the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), has resigned from his position. His resignation stems from allegations regarding the issuance of back-dated orders by the former Ombudsman. Addressing his resignation to BCCI President Mithun Manhas, Sethi highlights serious concerns affecting the management of cricket in the region.

Sethi’s departure from the JKCA Sub-Committee comes just days after the Supreme Court issued a directive on 27 October, mandating that JKCA conduct elections within 12 weeks under the oversight of former Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Joti. The Supreme Court’s decision seeks to restore democratic processes within the cricket association, making Sethi’s allegations more impactful.

In his resignation letter, Sethi cited troubling circumstances that compelled his decision. He stated, “As the Supreme Court has directed holding of elections of JKCA and the effort to appoint a new Ombudsman has not been approved by the Election Officer, back-dated orders are being issued by the former Ombudsman now, dating them back to March 2025. No such order was passed or reported to me.”

These claims raise significant questions about the governance practices in JKCA. The alleged back-dated orders reportedly alter club management and voting rights, prompting Sethi to express dismay. He remarked, “This is to change the voting nomenclature, which I do not wish to be party to.” His resignation underscores a call for transparency and accountability in JKCA’s operations.

As Sethi officially concludes his resignation letter, he reflects on his tenure with gratitude, noting, “As such, I tender my resignation from the Member Sub-Committee. Please accept and relieve me. I am thankful for the opportunity the Board has bestowed on me.” This marks a crucial moment for JKCA, as it grapples with a significant shift in its internal structure ahead of upcoming elections.

The implications of Sethi’s resignation could reverberate through JKCA, particularly as the Supreme Court pushes for necessary reforms and elections. Stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir’s cricketing community await further developments. Sethi’s move could inspire others within the organization to raise concerns about governance and operational integrity.
