SRINAGAR, Oct 30: The Minister for Jal Shakti Department, Javed Ahmad Rana, announced today that a policy for the regularization of daily-wagers is under consideration. He addressed this matter while responding to a question raised by Legislator Dr. Sajjad Shafi in the Legislative Assembly.
Minister Rana highlighted the growing shortage of staff in his department due to the superannuation of several field employees. He provided critical statistics, revealing that while there are 125 Assistant Linemen currently available, only eight Lineman posts are vacant in the PHE Sub-Division Uri.
This shortage has prompted the department to ensure uninterrupted water supply services to the public. To achieve this, Minister Rana stated that interim arrangements have been made through the internal deployment of available manpower. This includes the reassignment of both regular employees and daily wagers until the department fills the vacant posts through formal recruitment, promotion, or redeployment as per departmental guidelines.
Minister Rana’s statement underscores the importance of maintaining operational efficiency in the face of staffing challenges. The minister expressed a commitment to ensuring that essential operations like the management of Water Supply Schemes (WSS) remain stable during this transition period.
In an evolving scenario, the Jal Shakti Department continues to prioritize the welfare of its workers while navigating the complexities of public service demands. The pending policy for the regularization of daily-wagers reflects the government’s recognition of the crucial role these employees play within the infrastructure of water supply management.
As discussions on this policy unfold, many within the department await clarity on employment stability, professional growth, and the implications for service delivery in Jammu and Kashmir. The Minister’s efforts signal an acknowledgment of the contributions made by daily-wagers and the necessity for systematic reforms.
The situation remains dynamic, with the Minister assuring the assembly that the policy review will consider the practical needs of both employees and the community reliant on the services provided by the Jal Shakti Department.
