Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh confirmed on Friday that 4 to 5 Pakistani fighter jets, most likely F-16s, were destroyed during the highly strategic Operation Sindoor. The announcement came while addressing the media in New Delhi, highlighting significant advancements in India’s airstrike capabilities.
During Operation Sindoor, the IAF executed precision strikes on various Pakistani airbases, inflicting substantial damage on radar systems, command centres, runways, hangars, and a surface-to-air missile (SAM) system. Singh reported that a crucial C-130-class transport aircraft and potentially a high-value surveillance plane also sustained damage in the operation.
“We struck a large number of their airfields and installations…radars at four places, command centres at two locations, two runways, and three hangars were destroyed. We have evidence of one C-130 aircraft being hit, and at least 4–5 fighters, most likely F-16s, which were under maintenance at that time,” stated the Air Chief Marshal.
Singh further elaborated that the IAF utilized its newly procured long-range SAMs during the operation. These advanced systems significantly restricted operations of the Pakistan Air Force, preventing them from even entering their territory to mount a response. The operation also achieved a historic milestone with the longest successful missile strike recorded at over 300 kilometers, severely crippling Pakistan’s aerial capabilities.
Labeling the operation a decisive and time-bound success, Singh asserted, “This was a war initiated with a clear objective and concluded promptly once our goals were met. In contrast to prolonged global conflicts, India showcased that clarity and precision can compel an adversary to request a ceasefire.”
Reflecting on the strategic implications of this operation, Singh emphasized that this experience should serve as a lesson for the world, especially as many international wars continue without resolution. The IAF’s capability enhancement and operational efficiency have underscored India’s commitment to safeguarding national security.
