J&K Women Cricketers Hail India’s Historic ICC Women’s World Cup Triumph, Urge Parents to Support Daughters

In the wake of India’s maiden ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup triumph, women cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir have extended heartfelt congratulations to the national team and urged parents to empower their daughters to pursue sports. The players said India’s victory was not just a sporting achievement but a milestone in women’s empowerment.

Former J&K captain and selector Roopali Slathia hailed the Indian women’s team for scripting history. “The Indian women’s cricket team made the nation proud by winning the ICC Women’s World Cup — a moment etched forever in the hearts of millions. Their teamwork, dedication, and belief have inspired a generation,” she said.

Slathia noted that the victory symbolised the growing strength of women in sports. “This triumph was not just about lifting a trophy; it was about breaking barriers and proving that women can excel at the highest level. The win will encourage countless girls to dream big and chase their goals with determination,” she added.

The former captain, who also serves on the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), said the victory will significantly boost the popularity of women’s cricket. “This success will attract more girls to the game. Players will become national icons, encouraging better training facilities, equal pay, and greater support from sponsors and the government,” she said.

Echoing similar sentiments, Meenu Slathia, another former cricketer and CAC member, said, “This victory will transform how society views women in sports. It will push for more investment and inspire families to support their daughters in pursuing athletic careers. We are witnessing the rise of a more inclusive sports culture.”

She added that women’s cricket in J&K has seen tremendous growth in recent years. “Grassroots initiatives, local tournaments, and cricket academies have nurtured emerging talent. National-level support and increased media visibility have accelerated this progress. The momentum must continue,” she emphasized.

Senior cricketer Sarla Devi praised the Indian team, saying, “The World Cup victory proves that ‘Hamari Chhoriyan, Chhoro Se Kam Nahi.’ When women are treated equally, success naturally follows.” She also appreciated the JKCA’s continued efforts, acknowledging officials like former sub-committee member Mithun Manhas (now BCCI President) and Brig. (Retd.) Anil Gupta for guiding and supporting J&K’s cricketers.

JKCA’s Member Administration, Brig. Anil Gupta, congratulated the Indian team, remarking, “The victory shows that with determination and discipline, any challenge can be overcome. JKCA remains committed to promoting women’s cricket by providing players with modern infrastructure, coaching, and opportunities.”

He added, “This World Cup win will encourage parents across J&K to let their daughters pursue cricket professionally. The social taboo is fading, and this victory will push that change further.”

The triumph of the Indian women’s team has ignited a sense of pride and possibility across the Union Territory. As J&K’s women cricketers continue to rise, the message is clear — with equal opportunities and unwavering support, the daughters of the mountains are ready to shine on the world stage.
