The annual Amarnath Yatra faced suspension from the Baltal route on Friday due to adverse weather conditions. Officials made this decision to ensure the safety of pilgrims and to facilitate crucial repair work on the track.
This measure comes as the yatra has already halted from the Pahalgam route for the same reason. Heavy rains lashed the Baltal area on Thursday night, resulting in a minor flash flood at one location. Fortunately, officials reported no loss of life or property damage.
Following the inclement weather and ongoing repair efforts, officials prevented any pilgrims from proceeding towards the holy cave shrine from the Baltal route. They emphasized the importance of maintaining the safety of all those participating in the pilgrimage.
Active repair work on the track continues as officials strive to restore conditions for safe passage. The annual yatra commenced on July 3, and since then, approximately 4.5 lakh devotees have visited the cave shrine, which houses the naturally formed ice lingam.
The pilgrimage is scheduled to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan. As conditions evolve, officials remain vigilant, ready to adapt to changes to ensure a smooth experience for all participants.
