Jammu, 26th September 2025 — The National Commission for Women (NCW), under the leadership of Hon’ble Chairperson Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar, organized a Mahila Jan Sunwai (Rashtriya Mahila Ayog-Apke Dwar) today. This initiative aimed to address women’s grievances with on-the-spot resolutions and direct engagement, marking a notable effort to enhance women’s rights and safety.

The event took place at a prominent location in Jammu and drew significant participation from various complainant parties, including women from diverse backgrounds. The proactive approach of NCW facilitated immediate redress of numerous complaints, establishing a streamlined communication channel between the authorities and the victims.

During the program, the NCW successfully resolved several complaints on the spot, offering prompt relief and guidance to the affected individuals. This initiative exemplifies the Commission’s commitment to ensuring justice and support for women through accessible and responsive mechanisms.

While addressing the crowd, Chairperson Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar commended the exemplary cooperation of Jammu and Kashmir Police in facilitating the event. The synergy between law enforcement and the NCW significantly contributed to the successful outcome of the outreach program.

DIG Jammu extended his gratitude to the Commission for selecting Jammu as the venue for this crucial outreach. In conjunction with the Mahila Jan Sunwai, a review meeting followed, involving senior police and district administrative officers. During this session, guidelines and directions were issued to improve on-going plans and stress the importance of organizing more seminars and programs focused on women’s safety and security.

The program also featured a detailed PowerPoint presentation delivered by the DIG Jammu and the District Administration. The presentation underscored the various safety measures and resources available for women, as well as data pertaining to the prevention and detection of crimes against women. Such information proved crucial in equipping both women and law enforcement with better strategies for safeguarding female citizens.

Officials present at the event included Sh. Shiv Kumar, IPS, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Sh. Rakesh Minhas, IAS DC Jammu, Sh. Joginder Singh, SSP Jammu, Sh. Virender Manhas, SSP Samba, and Sh. Sandip Bhat, Addl. SP Udhampur. They all reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing women’s safety, underscoring that community engagement plays a vital role in addressing women’s issues effectively.
