The Lok Sabha adjourned on Friday amid ongoing protests from Opposition members over several pressing issues, including the NEET paper leak and allegations regarding the theft of Ram temple donation funds. The protests have disrupted the legislative process, prompting significant debate about parliamentary decorum and efficiency.
Despite the tumult, the House managed to pass the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026 without any debate. Such occurrences raise questions about the legislative priorities and the impact of continuous protests on crucial debates that define policy directions.
Amid the chaos, several papers and reports from various Parliamentary committees were tabled in the House, underscoring the necessity of legislative formalities despite Opposition disruptions.
The Opposition demanded a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding alleged police excesses during the recent student protests linked to the NEET paper leak. Responding firmly, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized that the Opposition cannot dictate which minister addresses the House.
Rijiju defended Shah’s commitment, stating, “Home Minister Shah comes to Parliament every day and stays till late night.” He urged the protesting members to cease their “drama” of disruption for a more productive session.
As the protests intensified, Chairperson Dilip Saikia called for cooperation, pleading with members to return to their seats. His calls for order went unheard as members continued to raise slogans, reflecting the deep-seated tensions between the ruling government and the Opposition.
The Zero Hour was adjourned just 16 minutes into the session, and the Lok Sabha is scheduled to reconvene on Monday. This highlights the challenges faced during the ongoing Monsoon session, which began on July 20 and has consistently experienced disruptions due to rising tensions between the Centre and the Opposition.
The ongoing protests and demands illustrate significant public concern over issues that directly affect citizens. As debates linger on pressing topics like the NEET paper leak, governmental accountability remains a critical theme as the legislative body grapples with its responsibilities.
