On Tuesday, September 11, 2023, Prime Minister Modi will visit Gujarat and Maharashtra to inaugurate several vital development projects collectively valued at over ₹35,000 crore in Vadodara. These projects represent a significant investment in the region’s infrastructure.
Among the premier projects is the dedication of three critical sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), covering 326 route kilometres, with an investment exceeding ₹20,700 crore. These sections—New Sanand (N) to New Makarpura, New Umbergaon to New Saphale, and New Saphale to New JNPT—will enhance connectivity between industrial centres and ports.
The new infrastructure will benefit the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), facilitating rapid movement of EXIM cargo and alleviating congestion in Mumbai’s railway network. Decongesting this critical transport hub will lower logistics costs and improve supply chain efficiency.
Upon operationalizing these sections, the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) network will operate at full capacity, further bolstering the logistics ecosystem across India. This dedicated freight infrastructure aims at improving multimodal connectivity and reducing transit times, promoting seamless cargo movement across diverse geographies.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will flag off freight train services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon, and New JNPT in Mumbai. He will also initiate a new passenger train service connecting Tanda Road and Vadodara (Pratapnagar).
As part of broader improvements, he will dedicate the Jobat-Tanda Road new rail line, which integrates remote tribal regions of Alirajpur with the national railway network. This project particularly aims at enhancing connectivity for underserved areas.
Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation for three railway projects spanning 329 kilometres with a financial outlay of over ₹9,700 crore. These projects include the Vadodara-Ratlam third and fourth lines, Miyagam Karjan-Choranda–Malsar gauge conversion, and the Vishwamitri-Dabhoi doubling initiative. All projects seek to boost passenger and freight capacity while alleviating congestion between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Apart from rail projects, he will initiate three National Highway projects totaling approximately ₹1,780 crore. This includes the six-laning of the Kamrej-Chalthan section of NH-48, enhancing major bridge infrastructure over the Tapi and Narmada rivers, and grade-separated structures at critical junctions along NH-53.
In Vadodara, Modi will dedicate various Government of Gujarat projects worth around ₹2,600 crore to the nation. Notable projects include the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road Phase II and a 110 MW floating solar plant at Kadana Dam. In addition, housing projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and a water-supply scheme for 11 villages also feature prominently.
Moreover, the Prime Minister will head to Mumbai to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026, one of the largest annual fintech gatherings worldwide. The seventh edition of this significant conference is set for September 8-11, 2026, and has become an international forum for stakeholders in finance.
GFF 2026, themed “Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenisation, Quantum – Trusted, Connected, Global Systems for Inclusive Finance,” aims to convene policymakers, regulators, and financial innovators to discuss the future of finance.
This event highlights India’s aspirations to lead in digital payments and financial inclusion, pushing for impactful innovations that translate potential into reality for the global economy.
