CEC Kargil Meets Union Minister Gadkari to Discuss NH-301 and Kargil Infrastructure

In a significant development aimed at boosting infrastructure in Ladakh, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, held a high-level meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, at New Delhi on Wednesday.

The meeting focused primarily on the Kargil–Zanskar National Highway (NH-301)—a crucial route for connectivity and economic development in the region. The key agenda of the discussion was the 0 to 30 km stretch of the highway, particularly addressing matters related to land and house compensation for affected residents.

Dr. Akhoon emphasized the need for a transparent and fair compensation process to ensure that development projects do not disrupt local livelihoods. He stressed that early resolution of compensation concerns would expedite the construction and upgradation of the strategic road.

The meeting also took into account the maintenance issues from 0 to 6 kilometers of NH-301, which has been a longstanding demand of the local population due to deteriorating road conditions in the initial stretch. Minister Gadkari assured full cooperation from the central government and expressed commitment to accelerating highway works in Ladakh.

The CEC was accompanied by Councilor Parkachik, Aga Syed Ainul Huda, who also highlighted grassroots-level challenges faced by the residents of Kargil, particularly those living along the NH-301 alignment.

Speaking after the meeting, Dr. Akhoon said, “The development of NH-301 is not just about infrastructure; it is about transforming lives in the far-flung regions of Ladakh. We are hopeful that with the central government’s support, long-pending issues will be addressed effectively.”

This meeting marks a pivotal moment in the roadmap for Kargil’s infrastructure upgrade, with the promise of improved road connectivity, faster development, and better accessibility for the people of the district.
