Tejashwi Yadav Detained in Patna Over NEET Protests

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav was detained in Patna on Wednesday while leading a march that protested against the recent police actions during the NEET paper leak protests in Bihar, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya K Sharma.

Police apprehended Yadav in a vehicle near the Income Tax office. Despite the detention, he voiced strong criticisms of the state government, claiming, “The government is pushing the future of students into darkness. Exam papers are getting leaked frequently,” as officers placed him inside the police van.

Leading a group of RJD workers and local leaders, Yadav initiated the protest march from JP Golambar to Lok Bhavan in Patna, rallying for justice and transparency in the examination system. The assembly marked a significant step in the RJD’s ongoing efforts to address rising student unrest against the backdrop of the leaked examination papers.

During the protests, police deployed water cannons and attempted to control the crowd, with Yadav and other leaders trying to breach the barricades along the march route. This response from law enforcement raised concerns about the government’s handling of student protests.

In his remarks to journalists, Yadav emphasized the need for the government to acknowledge the sentiments of today’s youth, stating, “It is important to understand the emotions of Gen Z. The government used AK-47 rifles against protesting students in Bihar and deployed pellet guns and nail-embedded batons against them in Delhi just because they demanded an honest and transparent examination system.”

The protests unfolded in a tense atmosphere as students, worried about their futures, rallied against what they perceive as a failing educational system. Recent incidents have shown a troubling trend of police responses to student protests across the nation, generating widespread backlash.

As the situation develops, critics urge the government to engage with student representatives and rectify the issues driving the unrest. The ongoing NEET agitation, intertwined with these protests, underscores a growing crisis regarding education policies and student welfare in the region.

In light of these events, many claim that the government’s actions could have long-lasting implications for student engagement and academic integrity in Bihar. The commitment to transforming the current educational environment now rests on both the government’s shoulders and the students’ determination to unify for their rights.
