Police arrested a man named Sunit, alias “Katua,” from Nagla Hardayal in the Mant area of Mathura for allegedly issuing a life threat to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath via social media. He posted a video brandishing a pistol, threatening to shoot the Chief Minister by September 25, before stating he would take his own life.
Sunit displayed a pistol magazine in the video, claiming it contained nine bullets, and ominously declared his intention to “fire all nine.” He asserted he had previously lodged a complaint with the CM’s office, alleging inaction, which he claimed drove him to this extreme measure of threatening a sitting Chief Minister.
On Friday evening, police arrived at Sunit’s residence to apprehend him. He barricaded himself inside and fired shots from the third floor, simultaneously issuing threats to harm himself. After an hour-long standoff, police successfully subdued and arrested him, seizing a pistol and live cartridges from the scene.
Local residents offered insights into Sunit’s troubled state of mind, noting he had been under considerable mental stress and would often share personal problems loudly in public. They described his behavior as increasingly unstable in recent months.
The video rapidly gained traction across social media platforms, leading to swift action from law enforcement agencies. Authorities have launched an investigation into how Sunit acquired the weapon and his underlying motivations for issuing such a threat against CM Yogi Adityanath.
A case has been filed against Sunit under serious charges, including criminal intimidation, an attempt to incite violence, and illegal possession of arms. The police continue to explore the incident’s broader implications and pursue a thorough examination of Sunit’s circumstances.
As the situation develops, the public and political leaders are left to grapple with the alarming ramifications of such threats against state officials. Notably, this incident raises concerns about public safety and mental health in the community.
Further investigation is ongoing, and authorities are determined to ensure accountability and security amidst rising tensions.
