
The Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Girls commenced today at the University of Jammu. Organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu, this event aims to promote sports and athleticism among young girls in the region.
On the opening day, around 300 girl athletes from numerous government and private schools participated, demonstrating their skills in a variety of track and field events. The excitement among the crowd and participants reflected their strong sporting spirit.
The day featured intense competition, particularly in the discus throw events. In the U-19 category, Sweety Devi (Zone Marh) triumphed, taking home the gold medal. Konika Chib (Zone RS Pura) earned silver, with Renu (Zone Bishnah) claiming bronze. Nidhi Verma (Zone Satwari) won gold in the U-17 discus throw, followed by Kiran Kumari (Zone Bhalwal) and Nirjala (Zone Bishnah). In the U-14 section, Subhana (Zone Satwari) secured first place, while Sonakshi (Zone Miran Sahib) and Mansi (Zone Akhnoor) took silver and bronze, respectively.
In the sprint events, the 100m races saw Damanpreet (Zone Bishnah) clinch gold in the U-14 category. Nishta Sharma (Zone Jammu) emerged victorious in the U-17, while Shivani (Zone Jammu) captured the top spot in the U-19. The 400m events boasted strong finishes, with Sahiba Choudhary (Zone Dansal) winning the U-14 race, and Nishta Sharma (Zone Jammu) continuing her dominance in the U-17 category.
In the competitive 300m race, Mehak (Zone Jammu) took gold in the U-19, while Sonia Choudhary (Zone Dansal) excelled in the U-17 division.
The high jump events showcased incredible talent. Shriya Bhagat (U-14, Zone Chowki Choura), Rohika Devi (U-17, Zone Chowki Choura), and Payal Kumari (U-19, Zone Chowki Choura) each achieved gold medal wins in their respective events.
Officials from DYSS, including DYSO Jammu and technical experts like Nirmal Singh, Chamel Singh, Sarabjeet Singh, Vijay Sharma, and Harsimran Singh, presented medals to top performers. They emphasized the importance of dedication, discipline, team spirit, and sportsmanship as the competition continues.
